Best Yoga DVD

There are numerous Yoga DVDs on the market for beginners and beyond. However, in order to receive the most effective yoga experience, one needs to be sure to purchase a yoga DVD that coincides with his or her level of fitness. Here are a couple DVDS on the market that cater to various levels while providing a restful and peaceful yoga experience.

If you are looking for a complete workout and all elements of yoga combined into one DVD, then Yoga Shakti is the DVD. This video has four workout sessions, with modifications for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Set in India and the Maldive Islands, the scenery is the best of any yoga DVD on the market. In addition, the DVD offers a system where one can build his or her own yoga workout that meets their individual needs and time constraints. The workout is based on the vinyasa flow and incorporates the sun salutations, dancing warrior, forward bends, hip-openers, lunges and twists. It is a total body workout that will raise the heart rate while providing relaxation and nourishment to the organs and muscles. There are also meditation and breathing exercises incorporated into the workout. Furthermore, one can choose to perform the DVD with music only or with music and instruction. All of the music is Indian based and very soothing. If you are looking to purchase only one DVD, this is the best choice.

If looking for relaxation and rejuvenation, the best yoga DVD is A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners. This DVD is aimed at beginners but can be easily modified for those who are more advanced. The instructor will suggest modifications for the participants during the lesson. Furthermore, this DVD is broken into two sections, a special workout for the A.M. and a specifically designed workout for the end of a busy day in the P.M. The 20 minute morning workout aims at building a foundation for the day as well as energizing the body. The 20 minute P.M. session works to revitalize and rejuvenate after a long day at work through stretches, standing poses and forward bends. It is a workout that will get the heart rate up while providing deep relaxation. The restful ending of each section will almost put you to sleep. Furthermore, the scenery in this video is beautiful. Set aside water, the background of this video is calming within itself. This is a unique DVD that caters to different needs of the body during various periods of the day.

Depending on what type of workout you are looking for these DVDs are both great options. Both can be modified to cater to different needs and levels. In addition, both incorporate beautiful scenery and excellent instruction.John has been writing articles online for nearly 4 years now. Pregnancy Yoga DVD Prepares Your Mind and Spirit For Childbirth and Motherhood

Your pregnancy yoga DVD helps you evolve from your mother's daughter to your child's mother.

Of course, it prepares your body for childbirth, but your pregnancy yoga DVD also prepares you to meet new motherhood's challenges. Given its balance of physical and psychological disciplines, your practice of yoga helps you think beyond yourself, promoting your growth into your new and unaccustomed role as caretaker, instructor, pathfinder, and provider. Your private, quiet time in yoga practice allows you to listen and feel as your child quickens; you will sense her responding to your voice and other stimuli from the outside world. Your pregnancy yoga DVD teaches you not only to control and rise above the pain of childbirth but also to respond to motherhood's demands.

Pregnancy yoga DVD reinforces natural childbirth classes.

Your pregnancy yoga DVD complements your natural childbirth classes. Reinforcing breathing techniques you learn in class and developing your ability to focus outside yourself, your yoga practice helps you master and rise above your pain. Your body naturally tenses-up in response to pain; all your muscles flex as you "tough it out." Lamaze class and your yoga practice teach you to overcome instinct, relaxing into, through, and beyond each contraction, flexing only your vaginal muscles so that you conserve energy and minimize pain. You probably use the expression "go to your happy place." Natural childbirth classes and yoga practice show you how to find your psychological and spiritual sanctuary; they teach the express route to "your happy place."

Pregnancy yoga DVD develops the bond between you and your baby.

Your pregnancy yoga DVD encourages you to bond with your baby. By the beginning of your third trimester, you feel your baby kicking, and you often can tell when she is awake. Instead of just a foreign lump in your belly, you now feel life developing in your womb. Your yoga practice affords special opportunity to develop the special bond between you and your child. When you talk to her, she learns the comfort and reassurance in your voice. When you listen carefully and attend to her movements, she begins introducing herself to you. Meditating and visualizing as you work your way through your poses, imagine all you wish and want for your child and for your still-evolving self.

Your pregnancy yoga DVD also helps you cultivate the special selfishness every good mother must indulge. It gives you precious, delectable, blissful, delicious "me-time." As your due date approaches, you begin asking, "Who will care for the caretaker." Your yoga practice teaches you the ideal answer: you, the universe, and the divine power guiding the universe's constant unfolding will collaborate to care for you, providing all you need...in abundance. Finding sanctuary and "moratorium"-a perfect time-out-in your yoga, take time to reinforce your love for you.

Check Out Yoga Journal's Beginning Yoga Step by Step, Volume 2 (For Beginners by Natasha Rizopoulos) for $8.22

Yoga Journal's Beginning Yoga Step by Step, Volume 2 (For Beginners by Natasha Rizopoulos) Review

This DVD, the second in the Step by Step series by Yoga Journal, has the same great features that the third had: an instructional portion going over all of the postures it covers in detail, followed by a "flowing" workout to use once you've mastered the instruction. Also included is an option to follow along with Jason, one of the assistants, in case you need to modify for most of the workout.

Based on what I've read on other sites, I think this is going to be the most popular of the three releases. First, it's that "just right" level of challenge- not as basic as the first (not that there is anything wrong with basic) but not as daunting as the arm balances in the third. Second, the fact that it's promoted as increasing flexibility, which most people associate with yoga, probably contributes to its popularity.

This release covers back bends, twists and forward bends. Included are Ujjayi Breathing, Half Sun Salutation, Sun Salutation A, Cat/Cow, Hero, Downward Dog, Plank, Locust, Cobra, Upward Facing Dog, Camel, Bridge, Wheel/Upward Facing Bow, Easy Seated Pose, Easy Seated Twist, Half Lord of the Fish, Staff, Head to Knee and Seated Forward Bend. All of this is followed by a peaceful (but short) relaxation in Corpse for 2 minutes.

Although there are a few postures that might scare beginners off (Camel and Wheel come to mind), the tips and modifications included should allow most people to feel comfortable attempting the postures. As in the other releases, the instructor also shows and discusses some of the common alignment errors, paying special attention to protecting the low back.

Although it is included as part of a set, I think this practice is very complete and someone could feel good about using this as a regular part of their routine without feeling like they were getting an unbalanced workout. The fact that the flowing practice takes 20 minutes (and the extended instruction is still only 35 minutes) is a bonus.

Great for stretching - R. Ockay -
I really like this DVD for light yoga; this second disc is quite a bit less of a "workout" than the first disc. I got the first disc, then the third (and couldn't do any of it-- too advanced), then this second one. They are all very different. The first one is very good for stretching the lower body and tones your quads very well (with the length that you stay in the warrior poses), and the third one is more advanced poses with a lot of headstand variations, but this one stretches your core a lot. There are a lot of poses that stretch your back and a couple that get your abs really well. I feel very loose and relaxed when I'm done. "The resting pose" at the end of your session is several minutes long, unlike in the first disc, and allows deeper relaxation. I would recommend this disc to everyone.

Yoga s Journal Step by Step vol. 2 - Leyna - Pa.

A little fast - Tish Tosh - Kentucky
I have Yoga Step by Step Vol. 1 and 2. I love them both! Natasha moves a little fast though. I like the fact that Jason is on there for those who can't get into some positions. I've been doing yoga for years now and I enjoy these videos.

Excellant instruction - red indian - LA
I have been suffering from back pain for the past year or so and back bends have been very helpful in taking some of that pain away. The instruction on this dvd is superb. After watching the dvd once I realized that I wasnt doing the asanas perfectly. Just one session of the yoga practice on the dvd made me feel far better that I had in months. Natasha takes great care to explain alignment, breath and modifications for each of the asanas covered. There are many very useful features on this including chalk talk, and watching a beginner practice the asanas which were especially useful. Truly an excellant video.

Yoga Exercises For Pregnant Women

Pregnant women can definitely benefit from doing yoga. The experience is one in which you can focus on what is happening within your body, relieve the stresses from worry and anxiety as well as keep your body in shape during this time. Pregnancy is a time of great risk though, so any and all exercises performed during this time need to be done with great care. At any time that you feel that you have overdone it, stop and rest. Make sure to ask your doctor if yoga is safe for you during pregnancy especially if you have any complications during it.

Exercises You Can Enjoy And Reap Benefits From

Yoga breathing: Probably the most important aspect to the pregnant women is relaxing and relieving stress. Although it is not an exercise, it is a way of taking control of the body once again to encourage positive-ness and to increase health. The right breathing techniques can provide many benefits. Take the time to practice the most basic of techniques that yoga teaches in breathing.

Standing Yoga poses: In your first trimester, the best exercises to do are the standing yoga poses. These are basic and taught in most yoga sessions. This will help strengthen your legs and muscles and help with circulation while reducing leg cramps too.

Asanas: In the next couple of months, you can do what feels right to you. But, never push too hard. You may want to reduce the time that you spend practicing the Asanas as you do not want to overwork or tire your body.

Moderate twisting: You can do supine poses, backbends as well as some twisting as long as you are comfortable. Just ensure that you are doing these in moderation.

Word Of Caution

It is important to note that many yoga practitioners warn against practicing yoga from the tenth through the fourteenth week of pregnancy since these are crucial times in development. Also, it is important to never overstretch the abdomen during any time of the pregnancy. When twisting, do so with your shoulders and the upper back only. As for inversion poses, only do them through the seventh month is you are completely comfortable doing them. Never push too hard and yoga will be very enjoyable during pregnancy.
