QiGong: A Guide to Well Being Review
I really feel this DVD is great. I find the program to be easy to learn, easy to understand, and I believe it can be beneficial to many people. The only problem with it is, it's poorly titled. If it had a very simple and clear name like Keith Jeffery's "4 minute fitness", sales would probably soar and it would find it's way into the hands of the people who really need it. Of course, there are far more complex and longer Chi Gong programs on the market. But, this simple 5 minute form is perfect for someone just getting started in the art of Chi Gong or for someone looking for a simple exercise routine, especially if exercise has not been part of their life. It's quick, it takes very little space to do, and can be done almost anywhere provided a person can stand. The best part is, it's simple enough that it can actually be learned from a DVD. A lot of programs are frustrating and can not be learned without personalized instruction. This isn't one of them. If you buy it and follow along with it, you'll learn it. A great Program, don't miss out.

are you serious??? - Hundun - Sacramento, CA
i am SO glad i was able to borrow this video from my local library! yet even though i didn't waste any money, i feel the need to mourn those 15 minutes that i will never get back.
the first time around i honestly thought the dvd was defective or something to just cut out and return to the menu screen before the exercises were even presented. on second look, however, i realized that the warm up WAS the exercises!
if you know how to loosen up your ankles and knees, stretch your neck, wring out your arms, and shake your body a little, then you don't need to buy this video. with the exception of shaking, which most people can do instinctively, these are NOT qigong exercises! they're literally joint loosening warm-ups that you may find at the start of ANY exercise class.
he should be ashamed of himself for making this video; there is NO defensible reason to label this qigong, and then to offer NO substantive content at all. not even breathing. NOTHING.
please, please, don't waste your money.
Only basic exercsies done in only in 5 min - Lena, LMT - Nassau, NY
I have several Qi Gong dvds, I started with "Discovering Chi" with Linda Modero which has cured me of several ailments & I always feel calm/energized after. I also love Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming's 8 Pieces of Brocade & Crane Style Soft & Hard Qi Gong. I enjoyed Francesco and Daisy Lee-Garripoli's Beginners & also their Cleaning Qi Gong dvds.
This DVD's has great production quality, good lighting, sound, even some cute unneeded fade in/out effects. Karl Ardo has a soft, patience nice presence, but not very calm, he seems a bit nervous. He teaches only as a voice over.
This DVD's teaching segment is only 8 min & contains only movements to open up the joints in the ankles, knees, hips, sacrum, spine, elbows, wrist & neck. Basically rolling or shaking each of the joints, such as rolling the ankles, knee circles, hip circles, bouncing, neck side to side & for the spine, even slow uludations like bellydance though the whole spine & it isn't done fluidly. The reason it's longer is it goes in slow motion for each exercise & zooms in so all you see is his hand or foot. These are very simple, easy movements & does not need such intense video help.
With all these attention to physical detail, you'd think he'd give more information about how the Asian people came up with this idea or even the specific benefits of each of the moves. The most atrocious thing is he neglects to tell you to keep the tongue at the roof of the mouth to joint the governing & conception vessels that run in the middle of the torso along the front & back & meet there to keep the energy flowing better.
What bugs me the most, in terms of "Discovering Chi" Linda does ALL these movements, but it's only the WARM UP on her beginner's DVD.
The other segments, Practice & Daily is just a 5 min each redo of the movements with him just saying the names of the movements. They both look very similar, just different music.
Karl teaches very patiently, very slowly even for those who's minds might be foggy/unclear from bad food or medications, but others might find too slow & boring. I was getting bored even though it was only 9 min.
I did not feel an increase of energy at all. As I said, these seem more a warm up of Qi Gong & that's it. You cannot get a good energy boost from Qi Gong in 5 min or less unless there is specific deeper teaching of meditative intention, more pronounced stretching of tendons, etc. Don't say I didn't warn you & don't assume Qi Gong doesn't work because this DVD didn't help you.
I might be more interested in future dvds if his teachers taught instead of him.

I love this one-of-a-kind DVD - Dr. M. Dixon - Tucson, AZ USA
This qigong practice is one I use often! It is perfect for when you are feeling something is off about your energy but only have 5 minutes to do something about it. The practice is basically opening up all the joints and then bouncing. It takes less than 5 minutes and it really makes a difference. One of the other things I like about this DVD is that it has the daily practice separate from the explanation/instructions so you don't have to rehear all the explanation every time unless you want to do so. If you are looking for the more typical 1/2 hour to hour meditative slow moving qigong, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you are looking for another tool to have to help manage your daily energy life, this is a keeper and I highly recommend!
