Yoga Teacher Training Online Correspondence Courses - The Inside Story

Is Yoga certification online a new concept? Not really; correspondence courses have existed for decades - concerning a multitude of subjects. It was only a matter of time for correspondence courses to evolve into online courses. Higher education has learned to adapt to the needs of busy adults, who have many commitments at home and at work.

With the help of Email and telephone support, Yoga teacher interns receive much quicker responses, from their tutors, than ever before. Written assignments, completed exams, and critiques, can be sent back and forth via Email.

Some interns elect to send their practicum in a video format or by streaming video. The most popular way to send a practical exam is still by postal mail in DVD format. Of course, the large VHS tapes are also acceptable. However, the small Hi8 tapes, which resemble cassette audio tapes, can be erased by scanning equipment.

Sending a video taped practicum is a viable option, if travel for an on site Yoga certification practical exam is a hardship. The cost of travel, time out of work, family obligations, and commitments to a higher college education, can make it impossible to complete an on site practicum.

Interns of Yoga correspondence courses must be self-starters. It is best to have smaller specific goals in mind for successful completion of the ultimate goal - which is to graduate with a Yoga teacher's diploma in hand.

Examples of smaller specific learning goals are: Reading ten pages per day, teaching for an hour per day, or a mix of learning methods, for a specific number of hours per week. The end result is a state of competence and successful completion of your Yoga instructor certification course.

Why Yoga feels so good.

After you practice Yoga for a while it may help you to overcome some self-limitations you may be placing on your self. When you are able to do that you will feel lighter and you will have an "acceptance" of your life as it is. You start to learn that challenges have their place in your life but they will not "rule" your life.

Yoga helps you realize your true potential and it encourages you to grow and improve towards that potential always striving to reach peace of mind.

Yoga helps you to focus on your breath. Breathing is the first thing we do when we come into this life and it is the last thing we do as we leave. However many of us are often not even aware that we are breathing.

Have you ever forgotten to breathe? There are some things in life that are so frightening, exciting, dangerous or amazing you may momentarily forget. Think about the way that you are breathing and how it relates to what is happening in your life.

Your breathe is rapid and shallow if you are afraid, or you take short sharp breaths when you have exerted your self with intense work. We take in a deep long breath when we are tired, we yawn to draw in additional oxygen. A sigh releases anxiety and if you were to stand on a windy cliff over looking the ocean you would likely take a deep long breath.

Taking the unconscious process of breathing and making it conscious is an essential aspect of yoga. The Sages of old found that as they became aware of their breathing as it moved in and out the mind could be consciously controlled. They then began to use the mind to control the breath, which happened to benefit the entire body and mind.

The ancient yogis were aware of the life energy that all things on this earth are made of. They revered the vital energy that enters on the breath. The exhale or releasing energy of the out-breath also being vital. The interplay of the two, inhale and exhale is what keeps us alive by circulating the vital life force and eliminating the used-up energy.

Budokon: Flow and Flexibility Yoga Review



First of all, this really is a great DVD. This is the only Budokon workout I have ever tried, so I can't compare it to the others. While I do enjoy the workout and do feel challenged by it, it is not one I alway return to.

Also, I can't help but feel a little cheated, 15 minutes of the 55 minute routine are spent just breathing (5 at the beginning and 10 at the end). For this reason, I only consider this a 40 minute workout. But that is not to say the 40 minutes are not challenging. I enjoy the bursts of martial arts thrown into the DVD, and I enjoy the flow. I always feel good after doing this DVD, but it just is not one I return to frequently.

I also own the Mark Blanchard 3 DVD Progressive Power Yoga set, which is another set that challenges me, but I find it difficult to motivate myself to do them. Maybe I'm not much of a yoga person. I have tried Rodney Yee, Ravi & Ana, and a few others, but I have yet to find one I love. I want to enjoy yoga more, but I just can't get into it (I should mention I am an avid workout video enthusiast, with a large library). So with all that said, this is one of my favourite yoga DVDs.

I loved this workout. It's fun and challenging and I feel like a ninja while I do it ;).
It's got a lot of the standard yoga postures (up and down dog, warriors 1 and 2) but puts them together in flowing enchainements. The flow sequences remind me of Shiva Rea's graceful style but with a little more punch (no pun intended).




Not for beginners - Christopher Knight -
This dvd oesnt really explain how to do anything. It shows alot of diferent techniques and positions, but if you are not someone that can learn on the fly then this isn't the dvd for you.



Best starter for the series. - Laney Stems - Pittsburgh, PA, USA
I really enjoyed this DVD. I feel that this workout is the easiest of all three tapes. While this workout is by no means simple, it is will get you moving and help you build up strength for the next ones. This tape has no balance on your hands type work (i.e. no crow positions). My advice: start with this DVD then move up.
