Hatha Yoga for Stress Management: Creating Your New Year Yoga Plan

Are you ready to make a life changing resolution? What is a daily Yoga plan? How can a daily Yoga plan reduce stress and change your life?

You can make a change at any time of the year, but New Year's resolutions are the most popular. Yet, we often see that New Year's resolutions do not make it past Valentine's Day. So, if you are ready to make a change and add Yoga to your life - let's look at a way for you to be successful for the long-term.

Get a journal and prepare it for writing. I prefer to write things down, but you may prefer a lap top, personal digital assistant, or your computer. Either way, you should write your goals down - especially the amount of time you plan to practice Yoga in a studio, at home, or on the way to and from work.

You can practice Yoga all day long. When you consider the many aspects of Hatha Yoga, you can easily incorporate them into your life. Here are some examples, but remember to incorporate these habits gradually. Do not make Yoga into a task, but take the time to enjoy the aspects, which help you deal with stress and add quality to your daily life.

In the morning, upon waking, you can practice Pranayama in bed. There are many Pranayama techniques to choose from, but you may find Dirgha breath or natural breath to be easier at this time of the day. You could practice meditation upon rising, for ten to twenty minutes, if you have the time.

Once you are up and about, you could practice asana warm-ups or Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar). If you do not have time, you could be mindful of what you eat by eating in moderation and making wise choices.

You can work on your posture as you sit, stand, walk or perform any physical task. Is your back straight when you eat? Do you take the time to enjoy your food? Are you breathing correctly or are you already short of breath? Does coffee make you short of breath? Which foods cause you adverse reactions?

This self-observation is just another exercise in mindfulness, but will cause you to open a form of consciousness, which will improve your daily life.

In order for us to make changes, we must first want, plan, observe, take action, and practice Yoga each day. Yoga is not a physical exercise to be counted by the minutes you practice on a Yoga mat. Physical exercise is just one aspect of Hatha Yoga.

To bring your life in balance, you must identify what you do that causes your stress. This will not eliminate all of your stress, but it will identify stressful situations, which you can prevent.

This is just one example of Yogic methods applied toward better health and a less stressful life. Writing down your Yoga plan is just the start of a good habit for positive change.

The Ancient Ayurveda Yoga Series Review

In sanskrit, Ayurveda means the study of life. According to ancient Hindu texts, all healing systems stem from Ayurvedic medicine. This Ancient Ayurveda series dvd, led by Sarah Tomlinson with clarity and insight, provides a blueprint for increasing self-awareness through the use of asana, symbol and metaphor. Tomlinson, acts like a loving guide to going inward and discovering new self-truths. To effectively bring about change in our bodies and minds, we must change habitual patterns in the body. The poses in the series takes us through a full range of challenging movements, and Tomlinson illuminates the wisdom of this practice by brilliantly threading together how the poses evoke certain states of mind and spirit. Filmed against a simple, soothing background, Tomlinson wisely avoids distracting bells and whistles. Instead, the accompanying chanting by ayurveda master Gandharva, directly relates to the series in it's use of each of the planetary mantras.
Tomlinson's has a great depth of knowledge about ayurveda, and she weaves many subtle suggestions and information about the benefits of each pose into the practice. This dvd is appropriate for beginner and advanced student: beginners will feel supported and encouraged, as well as exhilirated by the practice, and more experienced students will appreciate the multi-level aspect of Tomlinson's class.

Interesting - Fitness Organica - Missouri USA
A unique yoga practice based on the principles of Ayurveda. The 70-minute intermediate/advanced-level practice is divided into three sections: relaxing, harmonizing, and energizing. You have the option to do the entire practice, or select a single section. You also have the option to have the mantras on or off. There are 21 postures in the Ancient Ayurveda system; 7 in each of the 3 sections. Each of the postures corresponds to both a planet and a trait. For example, Forward Bend, one of the relaxing postures, corresponds to the planet Mercury and the Intellect. Sarah Tomlinson has included a very nice laminated 5x7 card with the DVD that can be pulled out for reference. Sarah is the co-director of the Ayurveda Yoga Institute in New Jersey, and is the only Ayurveda Yoga instructor/presenter in the USA.

Soothing Yoga for a Hectic World. ..... - Antoinette D. Maclachlan - New York City.
For me the wonderful thing about Sarah Tomlinsons' Ancient Ayurveda Yoga Series is that here is a yoga sequence that challenges us to slow down and observe the inner workings of our bodies. The calm and mindful presentation of this DVD reflects the quiet mindfulness with which we are invited to practice. Resting between each of the first 7 postures gives the practitioner the chance to internalize and notice the bodily sensations, a chance to move with awareness into the more complex postures that follow.
I have found it very easy to follow and practice with the DVD. With the musical quality of Sarah Tomlinson's voice acting as a soothing guide I have even found myself able do some of the more challenging postures, like Swan, that I was previously unable to do.I also find it fascinating the way each posture is connected with a beautiful Yantra and Mantra.
Here at last, is a mature yoga DVD that gets away from the frantic 'aeroba-yoga' fanaticism of recent years. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a soothing yoga experience.

Worst yoga routine ever - M. Waterman - glen mills, pa
This is the worst yoga tape I have personally seen. The production value of this tape is horrible. First problem, the entire tape was shot with one camera. The whole time you just get a side view of the instructure. For thirty dollars I would like multible angles. There was moment I thought she was going to stop her pose to adjust the focus. Secondly, it looks as if the whole tape was shot in the instructures bedroom. And a small bedroom at that.

There is nothing new as far as the routine goes. There are no new poses, or an ancient mind, body practice. The insructure seems bored with the routines as she is talking, very monotoned the whole time. And her voice is very nasal and just shall we say not soothing. This is just a badly done yoga routine that is horribly overpriced. If you want an excellent yoga routine try Shiva Rea or Baron Baptiste. STAY AWAY from this routine. It is the first Yoga tape I returned in three years!!!
