Check Out Wai Lana Yoga: Easy Relaxation Workout for $10.95
Wai Lana Yoga: Easy Relaxation Workout Review
I found this easy series just right for me as a beginner. This Relaxation workout energizes as well as relaxes. I have had to do some for less time than shown and have over the last couple months strengthened incredibly. This is really the only exercise I do and my muscles are firm and movement is coming much easier for me. When finished I feel like I've had a full body workout. It is refreshing and energizing.
Wai Lana has a soothing voice that my husband calls monotone, but I find is slightly melodious and very easy to ignore when I'm doing something else, but easy to hear and calming to listen to when I do. She moves between poses rather quickly, but after a while I got used to this. If this is bothersome to you at first you can do the "One Asana at a time" or just do the poses in less time to give you time to rest more between poses. Wai Lana has beautiful outfits that change throughout each session and a variety of beautiful backgrounds. Her outfits are very modest and not form fitting (a plus for men who don't want distraction). She wears an elastic belt around her waist, which helps you see what she is doing with her waist. She is very descriptive of how to do the poses and what benefits you are getting. Because her voice is non-intrusive it isn't irritating that she talks most of the time. She says nothing extraneous that would distract you from the pose and over a long period of time of using the DVD hearing her say the same things each time doesn't get irritating.
On the main menu you have "Start Workout", "Extras", and Introduction (which is the same on each DVD). The "Start Workout" is the entire work out for that DVD. The workout itself consists of about 35 minutes of postures. After that is a time of music and meditation. Under "Extras" it lists "One Asana at a time", which does as it says; "Customize your workout", this lets you do the asanas (poses) in any order you wish with 17 asanas (on the beginner's I didn't count there others) and 20 slots for your choices, so you can do one more than once or some not at all as you don't have to fill all the slots; "Guidelines" this is a basic rundown of things to do and not to do to get the most out of it and prevent injury; and "More from Wai Lana", which covers all the things she has to sell - her other DVDs and tapes, her music CDs, mats, etc. You can also see those things on her website: www.wailana.com.
Each DVD comes with an illustrated book showing a picture of each asana, its English name, and what it physically benefits most. This is useful if you are going traveling and don't have a DVD player, doing the set outside, or if you want to do the set at your own pace.
There is also an option on the main screen of each that allows you to change from English to Spanish.
The Relaxation Workout includes: Three-Step Leg Lift, Rock & Roll, Sitting Eagle, Arm Circles, Shoulder Rolls, Shoulder Lifts, Reaching Backbend, Windmill, Tree Pose, Easy Camel, Alternate Leg Stretch, Biking Pose, Drawbridge, Side Leg Rise, Locust Lift, Sacrum Massage, and Meditation.
Side note: the asana Wai Lana is doing on the front of each DVD cover is not included on that DVD, so don't pick the DVD(s) you buy by the asana pictured on the front.

Not What I Was Expecting - Spiritualist Enthusiast - Saratoga, CA
It wasn't what I was expecting.
Maybe my grandmother would enjoy this production, but for a mom-on-the-go, it wasn't up my alley.

Great - Lena, LMT - Nassau, NY
Wai Lana is very true to her art, her stamina & flexibility are amazing. She holds each pose for a good length, describing in details exactly how to move, when to breathe at all times, what to watch out for if your body tries to "cheat", modifications for each pose. The most important thing she does which most yoga DVDs lack is that she tells you the BENEFITS while you are holding them to keep you inspired to try your hardest to get the health benefits. She also uses some moves that are Qi Gong style to increase energy & blood flow. In all her videos, she always works out at beautiful beaches & other landscapes.
From Grass Tiger's review of Wai Lana's 3 disc set, the Relaxation disc has: Three-Step Leg Lift, Rock & Roll, Sitting Eagle, Arm Circles, Shoulder Rolls, Shoulder Lifts, Reaching Backbend, Windmill, Tree Pose, Easy Camel, Alternate Leg Stretch, Biking Pose, Drawbridge, Side Leg Rise, Locust Lift, Sacrum Massage, and Meditation.
My legs, especially hamstrings, were stiff & hurting me before the workout & felt great after. On a pose to fix poor back posture, I pushed myself too much & was in slight pain during & my back was muscularly sore after. The interesting thing was, if I slouched, it hurt more, if I kept my back straight, the pain disapeared instantly. The pain was gone in a few days without any pain meds, heat or ice or anything which I normally never bother with.
The only cons are that some people have said her accent is hard to understand, but I, who usually do have trouble with accents, did not. She speaks in a unrushed, calm tones. She also uses gaudy makeup & very colorful outfits. But those complaints are shallow, and all that matters is the teaching ability for a safe workout.
I wish more yoga videos taught you benefits as you did the poses to keep you inspired.

Teaching Hatha Yoga - Creative Networking
For Yoga teachers, who work as independent contractors, this economy is a test of creativity. Although there may be class cutbacks, at your local health club, a local chiropractic clinic may be searching for a Yoga instructor to work "in house."
Alexander Graham Bell stated, "When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." We wait for things to happen, and when they do not fall into place, we dwell on the negative outcome.
We practice preventative health methods and teach others to be pro-active toward health, but we neglect being creative about networking. Some of us are entirely content to teach Yoga in isolation. There are many reasons for this, but most of us, who teach Yoga, tend to be very independent in our thinking.
In the words of John Donne: "No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
This does not imply that you should give up your own free will, but feel free to "test the waters" of networking. Opportunities are good only when you recognize their potential. Everyone needs to consider opportunities in this economy.
Please consider your viewpoint in all matters. Are you optimistic, middle of the road, or slightly cynical? At this point, I have never met a pessimistic teacher of Yoga, so that option has been by-passed.
If you are optimistic or cynical, you need to hear the opposite opinion from a trusted friend. Even if you do not agree, a logical and honest opposing opinion can help you make a sensible evaluation.
Now, let's get back to the heart of networking your Yoga teaching services. An independent contractor can afford to take his or her time making a decision. There is usually very little overhead to worry about, no employees to pay, and creative independent contractors are in a strong position in any economy.
However, if you are a Yoga studio owner, you must move forward now. You must network to find services that your students are seeking. Therapeutic massage, Ayurveda, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Reiki, and Pilates are examples of services that your students may desire.
If you have the space or time frames available, you might find the networking opportunity of a lifetime. Many of these networking opportunities come and go, but some of them are perfect long-term matches.

Hatha Yoga for Stress Management: Creating Your New Year Yoga Plan
Are you ready to make a life changing resolution? What is a daily Yoga plan? How can a daily Yoga plan reduce stress and change your life?
You can make a change at any time of the year, but New Year's resolutions are the most popular. Yet, we often see that New Year's resolutions do not make it past Valentine's Day. So, if you are ready to make a change and add Yoga to your life - let's look at a way for you to be successful for the long-term.
Get a journal and prepare it for writing. I prefer to write things down, but you may prefer a lap top, personal digital assistant, or your computer. Either way, you should write your goals down - especially the amount of time you plan to practice Yoga in a studio, at home, or on the way to and from work.
You can practice Yoga all day long. When you consider the many aspects of Hatha Yoga, you can easily incorporate them into your life. Here are some examples, but remember to incorporate these habits gradually. Do not make Yoga into a task, but take the time to enjoy the aspects, which help you deal with stress and add quality to your daily life.
In the morning, upon waking, you can practice Pranayama in bed. There are many Pranayama techniques to choose from, but you may find Dirgha breath or natural breath to be easier at this time of the day. You could practice meditation upon rising, for ten to twenty minutes, if you have the time.
Once you are up and about, you could practice asana warm-ups or Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar). If you do not have time, you could be mindful of what you eat by eating in moderation and making wise choices.
You can work on your posture as you sit, stand, walk or perform any physical task. Is your back straight when you eat? Do you take the time to enjoy your food? Are you breathing correctly or are you already short of breath? Does coffee make you short of breath? Which foods cause you adverse reactions?
This self-observation is just another exercise in mindfulness, but will cause you to open a form of consciousness, which will improve your daily life.
In order for us to make changes, we must first want, plan, observe, take action, and practice Yoga each day. Yoga is not a physical exercise to be counted by the minutes you practice on a Yoga mat. Physical exercise is just one aspect of Hatha Yoga.
To bring your life in balance, you must identify what you do that causes your stress. This will not eliminate all of your stress, but it will identify stressful situations, which you can prevent.
This is just one example of Yogic methods applied toward better health and a less stressful life. Writing down your Yoga plan is just the start of a good habit for positive change.

The Ancient Ayurveda Yoga Series Review
In sanskrit, Ayurveda means the study of life. According to ancient Hindu texts, all healing systems stem from Ayurvedic medicine. This Ancient Ayurveda series dvd, led by Sarah Tomlinson with clarity and insight, provides a blueprint for increasing self-awareness through the use of asana, symbol and metaphor. Tomlinson, acts like a loving guide to going inward and discovering new self-truths. To effectively bring about change in our bodies and minds, we must change habitual patterns in the body. The poses in the series takes us through a full range of challenging movements, and Tomlinson illuminates the wisdom of this practice by brilliantly threading together how the poses evoke certain states of mind and spirit. Filmed against a simple, soothing background, Tomlinson wisely avoids distracting bells and whistles. Instead, the accompanying chanting by ayurveda master Gandharva, directly relates to the series in it's use of each of the planetary mantras.
Tomlinson's has a great depth of knowledge about ayurveda, and she weaves many subtle suggestions and information about the benefits of each pose into the practice. This dvd is appropriate for beginner and advanced student: beginners will feel supported and encouraged, as well as exhilirated by the practice, and more experienced students will appreciate the multi-level aspect of Tomlinson's class.
L. Landau, teacher and student

Interesting - Fitness Organica - Missouri USA
A unique yoga practice based on the principles of Ayurveda. The 70-minute intermediate/advanced-level practice is divided into three sections: relaxing, harmonizing, and energizing. You have the option to do the entire practice, or select a single section. You also have the option to have the mantras on or off. There are 21 postures in the Ancient Ayurveda system; 7 in each of the 3 sections. Each of the postures corresponds to both a planet and a trait. For example, Forward Bend, one of the relaxing postures, corresponds to the planet Mercury and the Intellect. Sarah Tomlinson has included a very nice laminated 5x7 card with the DVD that can be pulled out for reference. Sarah is the co-director of the Ayurveda Yoga Institute in New Jersey, and is the only Ayurveda Yoga instructor/presenter in the USA.
Soothing Yoga for a Hectic World. ..... - Antoinette D. Maclachlan - New York City.
For me the wonderful thing about Sarah Tomlinsons' Ancient Ayurveda Yoga Series is that here is a yoga sequence that challenges us to slow down and observe the inner workings of our bodies. The calm and mindful presentation of this DVD reflects the quiet mindfulness with which we are invited to practice. Resting between each of the first 7 postures gives the practitioner the chance to internalize and notice the bodily sensations, a chance to move with awareness into the more complex postures that follow.
I have found it very easy to follow and practice with the DVD. With the musical quality of Sarah Tomlinson's voice acting as a soothing guide I have even found myself able do some of the more challenging postures, like Swan, that I was previously unable to do.I also find it fascinating the way each posture is connected with a beautiful Yantra and Mantra.
Here at last, is a mature yoga DVD that gets away from the frantic 'aeroba-yoga' fanaticism of recent years. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a soothing yoga experience.
Worst yoga routine ever - M. Waterman - glen mills, pa
This is the worst yoga tape I have personally seen. The production value of this tape is horrible. First problem, the entire tape was shot with one camera. The whole time you just get a side view of the instructure. For thirty dollars I would like multible angles. There was moment I thought she was going to stop her pose to adjust the focus. Secondly, it looks as if the whole tape was shot in the instructures bedroom. And a small bedroom at that.
There is nothing new as far as the routine goes. There are no new poses, or an ancient mind, body practice. The insructure seems bored with the routines as she is talking, very monotoned the whole time. And her voice is very nasal and just shall we say not soothing. This is just a badly done yoga routine that is horribly overpriced. If you want an excellent yoga routine try Shiva Rea or Baron Baptiste. STAY AWAY from this routine. It is the first Yoga tape I returned in three years!!!
