Yoga For Men - Feel Good, Look Great and Live Longer

Yoga for men is becoming increasingly popular as more guys are waking up to the fact that their health is in their own hands.

Many ailments modern man experiences are a result of stress, poor diet and a lack of ability to switch off the busy mind. Yoga addresses these concerns.

We all know what it's like when we feel tense. Perhaps things aren't going so well at work, or at home. Or maybe there are money worries or concerns with the kids. As these problems pile up we can begin to feel it in the body - tight muscles, a stiff neck, headaches, back pains. You can probably add other suggestions to the list.

Yoga helps by gently and systematically stretching the whole body. It's like the ultimate massage as even the organs inside of the body are gently manipulated and refreshed. The muscles are pulled and contracted to allow tension to release and flexibility to return.

Energy levels are increased as oxygen-rich blood is pumped through the veins, getting rid of toxins and bringing vigor and a renewed capability to your physical efforts.

And the really great news is that you can do it at home without the need for expensive equipment (most of which probably ends up in storage anyway). A simple yoga mat is all you need in terms of equipment. Follow a routine that inspires you by getting a yoga book or DVD, or even better find a local class.

Aside from that you need to provide the enthusiasm and commitment. For best results try and do your yoga routine three or four times per week. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll feel the benefits.

You'll feel clearer in your mind, calmer and more energised. Yoga has been used by many men to help with erectile dysfunction and this along with increased energy levels has given a great boost to their self-confidence.

Yoga Zone - Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back Review

I have this DVD for couple of years now. Once I got the routine, however, I put it in back of my collection and forgot about it. One day, while bending down to pick up a basket at the grocery store, I felt a sharp pain in my lower back. It was so painful that even a drive home was a torture. The next day, I took out this DVD and started the exercise again. In the beginning, every movement was stiff and painful. Gradually, in the space of couple of days, my back pain was gone. I now incorporate this Yoga program into my regular routine as a warm-up. It is easy and incorporates a lot of gentle bending and twisting. This DVD is broken into two parts. If you do the whole thing, it'll take 36 minutes from beginning to end. Great exercise for your spine and lower back!

Yoga Zone - Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back Overview

Studio: Koch International Release Date: 07/24/2001

Yoga Zone - Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back Specifications

Yoga for a Strong and Healthy Back presents the fundamentals of posturing and breathing in this approachable 40-minute workout that includes two 20-minute sessions focusing on spinal rotation and muscular strength. The back is central to supporting all movements; conventional workouts often do not include exercises that strengthen the lower back. Yoga Zone gives excellent instruction here, and participants are taught poses that utilize both the lower and upper back. The warrior pose and forward bends are just a few of the postures performed here that can improve spinal flexibility and help to avoid future back injuries. Beginners should find the first set easy to follow (the postures within this section are modified versions of what is yet to come). The second set incorporates some back bends and deeper poses that require greater agility and strength. Despite the increased difficulty here, participants of all levels can improve their flexibility without being overwhelmed by impossible poses. Filmed in Jamaica, the content in this progressive workout is surpassed only by the white-sand beaches in the background. This regimen includes great information, cuing, and scenery--not to mention how relaxed you can feel after an intensive yoga experience like this. --Olivia Voigts

Helpful Yoga Video - meesh - USA
I'm new to yoga but have found that these stretches really help to loosen the tightness in my back. It doesn't feel like you are doing anything strenuous while doing the exercises but the next day I feel like I am looser and have more energy. I'm glad I bought it and the short sessions are not too hard to work into a busy schedule.

Cheesy with a Horrible DVD Menu Layout - J. Barre - Baton Rouge, LA USA
I couldn't get through five minutes of the DVD, though I will give it another chance. My initial impression was that it was horribly cheesy, and then when it brought you to the main DVD menu, it only had begin work-out. You couldn't choose to only do a shorter workout if you wanted--it would just play the full 40 minute DVD.
Also, if it's focusing on back pain, I would like to start off slow, maybe on the floor, before I get into the standing postures.
However, it was filmed in a nice, setting as opposed to other DVDs with a simple, white background and a mat. Also, even though cheesy, the instructors seemed nice and competent.

Disappointing - Teresa L. Caranto - US of A
I am disappointed with this DVD. I have other Yoga Zone DVD which you can really use to exercise and get benefit from it, but this one will just show you yoga poses and then you're on your own. Don't expect to sweat on this one.

Moving Toward Balance - 8 Weeks of Yoga With Rodney Yee by Rodney Yee With Nina Zolotow

"Moving Toward Balance: 8 Weeks of Yoga With Rodney Yee" by Rodney Yee with Nina Zolotow provides a systematic approach to developing and maintaining a yoga practice. It presents the ancient discipline in which physical postures, breath practices, meditation, and philosophical study that are tools for achieving liberation as a way to lead you to your own innate, ever-changing balance.

The bulk of this book describes poses that are introduced by categories each week of the program. I liked how the poses are shown with variations to accommodate different levels of strength and flexibility. The text has many photographs, all in color. While some of these pictures are pretty small, you can still see the pose Yee is illustrating and imitate the pose yourself.

If the book only provided the poses, it would still be a good book. However, it also provides information regarding living in balance and in the third part information on customizing your practice. This is the chapter I really found useful. It is a very short chapter, but one I think is important because everyone needs to customize their practice to meet their own personal goals for practicing yoga.

In an ideal world, everyone would be able to practice with a qualified instructor. Unfortunately, this is not always possible. For whatever reason, if you can't work with an instructor, Yee's book will enable you to learn and incorporate yoga into your own life. The book has an emphasis on home practice and encourages you to work on what works best for your own body.

If you are fortunate enough to attend classes with a qualified instructor, this book makes a great supplemental aid for bridging what you do in class and home. Regardless of you experience level, this book has a lot to offer. I also believe this book combined with DVDs is even better. Sometimes it benefits to see how Yee gets into the poses, rather than just the finished position. I know Yee has a lot of DVDs out, I personally have 6 or 7 of them. The combination of this book with DVDs provides a lot to practice. Even if you don't get any DVDs, I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to incorporate yoga practice into their lives.

Check Out Pilates for Moms - Post Natal/ Post Pregnancy Pilates for $9.76

Pilates for Moms - Post Natal/ Post Pregnancy Pilates Review

This is by far the best postnatal DVD workout that I tried. The DVD is packed with exercises, stretches, informational interviews, and some guided relaxation.

This gave a nice series of workouts from the very first days after birth when I could barely move, to the time period up to several months after birth when I'm finally starting to feel back to my normal self.

This DVD provided excellent stretches, exercises and guides for posture. Also, they provide a nice set of printouts giving suggested workout sequences on one page, and then a whole series of pages writing up the exercises. I found this really handy when life was just too crazy with the new baby and I just wanted to get some exercises/stretches in between the many baby needs and could just take out the printouts and run through them (without needing to turn on the DVD player).

The way Lindsey Jackson explains the stretches and posture techniques is excellent. I actually remember and think about her suggestions as I go about my day (not just when I'm playing the DVD).

I highly recommend this one.

She talks too much - T. Jacob -
I bought several videos at once and this was my least favorite. I had a pretty easy labor and I was eager to get back to my old self. I wanted a video that would maximize what little time I had during the day to work-out. I never use this video any more. I now use Postnatal Rescue on the really tired days and Postnatal Boot Camp for the maximum work-out.
My biggest complaint is that the instructor seems to stop the work-out to tell you the benefits. Good info but not if I want to use the video again and again. It moved way too slow for me and I kept wishing she would move on. I got so bored I haven't even seen some of the sessions and just threw the DVD on a shelf

I guess its a good video if you had a c-section and need to take things 'very easy', but it just wasn't for me

Great For Beginners - Alyice Edrich -
Whether you're completely out of shape or simply new to Pilates, Pilates For Moms is a great video for beginners. My only drawback is that I'd like to see the instructions shown in a separate segment instead of during the actual exercises.

That being said, Lindsey does a great job of making this video relaxing and powerful. She makes sure you understand the dos and don'ts of Pilates, how to modify moves, and how to listen to your body.

Yes, it's designed for mothers who've recently had babies, but Session 2 is geared more towards those who've had babies quite awhile ago.

I'm finding the video very helpful for my computer pains: lower back, neck and poor stomach muscles.

Prenatal Yoga DVD Instruction

The prenatal yoga DVD have become part of the ancient art of yoga. They have been accepted as an important part of self care during pregnancy as many believe that yoga is an excellent way to prepare oneself for pregnancy, child-birth and mother hood. Many mothers to be elect to stay in shape with this method.

The larger goal of yoga is the unison of body, mind and spirit which is achieved by the effective synchronization of movement, breath and consciousness. Yoga helps in the achievement of all round development of the being including the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of health. Yoga greatly helps during pregnancy as, during this prenatal period, the body, mind as well as emotions undergo constant changes.

The lower back is one of the most common problem areas for pregnant women. A good prenatal yoga DVD will go over all the main areas of the body and how they can be best be worked with by the expectant mother. Some of the yoga poses which can benefit one during pregnancy are poses like Cat which relaxes the spine and increases the elasticity of the lower back. This can be very soothing and relaxing for a pregnant woman. This pose also improves the blood circulation. The Cat pose also allows the weight of the uterus to come off the pelvis as well as the abdominal organs.

A few poses mimic the common delivery positions. These can help relax parts of the back by lengthening it. Lateral bend pose, head to knee pose and child pose also can be practised during pregnancy, as they have added benefits for pregnant women. The Warrior pose is also highly recommended during pregnancy. All these poses strengthen and relax the muscles, release tension and improve posture.

Deep breathing, which is an integral part of yoga, is a must for releasing fatigue and has great benefits for both the mother-to-be and the foetus; deep breathing is also highly recommended by physicians during delivery and is an integral part of the birthing process.

Yoga poses as one can learn on a prenatal yoga dvd can prepare a pregnant woman for the delivery by providing mental tranquillity, allowing her to connect to her inner self, building her strength as well as confidence. Yoga also teaches her to be more in touch with her inner self which is required during motherhood as well as the birthing process. Again, a well rounded prenatal yoga DVD will cover all the important areas.

The breathing, meditation and relaxation involved in yoga can help her to stay calm and relaxed during labour and the birthing process. Yoga perfectly complement the preparation of a woman to confront the physical and emotional changes without any qualms. Because of its connection with spirituality, yoga serves as a context for a pregnant woman to understand that pregnancy and motherhood are much more than just a physical experience.
