Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga ~ Short Forms with Jennifer Wolfe Review

This video was hands down the best purchase I made during my entire pregnancy.

I wanted to be "in training" during my pregnancy, as I was hoping for a natural childbirth. Unable to find prenatal classes that worked with my schedule, I listened to the numerous positive reviews for Jennifer Wolfe's videos, and I bought them during my first trimester.

My fitness background: I regularly use other ashtanga and vinyasa yoga videos, and I consider myself to be at an intermediate/advanced fitness level... probably intermediate when it comes to yoga.

I LOVED doing this video. I did either the 30 min or 45 min workout almost every day throughout my entire pregnancy (all 42 weeks of it!) Jennifer's teaching style and cues are great- I found her really pleasant, calming, and easy to follow. I felt as though she knew exactly what my muscles were craving- my husband laughed at all of my "mmmmmms" and "ahhhhhs" while I was working out.

This workout kept me sane and energetic. The modifications for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester were perfect for how I felt during each phase of my pregnancy. I definitely felt a big boost in my mental and physical state on days I did this video.

Obviously feeling good during pregnancy is important, but the strength it gave me during my childbirth experience was priceless. I DID have my natural childbirth, complete with 6.5 hours of pushing. My (highly sought-after) OB now tells all of his patients to use Jennifer Wolfe's yoga DVDs!

What is Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga?
Whether you're a yoga veteran in search of an active yoga routine, or you're new to yoga, Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga gives you all the tools to make your pregnancy journey the best it can be. Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga is your support system leading to a more comfortable pregnancy, quicker and less painful labor, and a speedier postpartum recovery.

Jennifer Wolfe developed Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga during her own pregnancy when she realized that all styles of prenatal yoga offered, at the time, could not adequately prepare her physically and mentally for labor. She wanted a yoga practice that specifically served the needs of the pregnant woman: one that actively prepares women for the marathon event of childbirth, while helping women discover their power and inner strength needed during this transformative period in their lives.

Jennifer Wolfe found these empowering and strengthening qualities in the soft flow of Vinyasa Yoga. In her DVDs, she adapts Vinyasa Yoga for the unique needs of pregnant women, providing a system that works with your body without sacrificing the intensity necessary to prepare for childbirth. By learning to link your breath and movements in a constant flow, you'll increase your ability to work with your body during labor and childbirth, reducing the need for medications or other interventions; including a decrease in the need for C-sections.

I use this everyday! - Lynleigh S. Palmer -
I am an advanced exerciser who prior to this pregnancy had started to enjoy vinyasa style yoga. So, when I stumbled upon this video after finding out I was pregnant with my second child, I was excited and ordered it immediately.

There are 3 workouts (15 min, 30 min and 45 min). All of the workouts are wonderful. They are intense and yet so relaxing. I primarily use the 30 minute workout before I go to bed. I have other prenatal yoga workouts but have only used this prenatal yoga dvd during this pregnancy.

At 32 weeks pregnant, I am still using this dvd daily and hope to be able to use it through the rest of my pregnancy.

Worthless - Janice Schwarz - United States
This woman went to the double espresso school of yoga. She zips through the forms rather than having you hold them. Further, you also spend a LOT of time upside down, specifically in downward dog.

For someone claiming to be a doula and to have all this experience working with pregnant women, she should know that all being upside down accomplishes is having baby crammed into your lungs. That is not especially conducive to breathing. Further, she doesn't give you time to get INTO a new pose. When a woman is in her 3rd trimester, there is no zipping through the forms the way she does.

One time she had a 3rd trimester woman adjust a form for a lunge by dropping her knee. Er...that's not a complicated pose even in 3rd trimester. However, a downward dog that is more of a flat back than a downward dog would be a better modification.

Admittedly, the problem may be that perhaps I'm not aware of what Vinyasa means. Probably something like "really fast".

After getting annoyed with the 15 minute workout, I watched some of the workouts and then gave up. I'm sending this one back.

Fantastic! Highly recommend - Yogini mama - Pennsylvania, USA
As a yoga teacher, I found this to be the best prenatal yoga dvd out there; knowledgeable. well paced. good cues and modifications. I absolutely recommend it!

How to Become The Best Possible Yoga Teacher

Once an intern graduates from a Yoga teacher training course, there are many high expectations. Within each of us, these expectations will differ, because we do not all want the same thing. There are many different fields for Yoga teachers to pursue. Physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health will not be addressed equally by any two Yoga teachers.

One Yoga teacher might focus on Yoga as an exercise, while another will address the therapeutic aspects of Yoga, and yet another will address the spiritual aspects of "Union." These are just a few of many potential possibilities, but there is a common formula to be the best you can be.

If you have become a Yoga teacher, you are already doing what you love, but many of your students do not love their occupations. Your passion and inspiration for life should be contagious. Students want to learn from a Yoga teacher who is "full of life."

Make an internal commitment to excellence. This commitment requires constant effort and action. Unfortunately, most of the world gives up and refuses to take action. This lack of action is to your advantage, if you take the next few steps.

Learn as much as you can, and practice as often as possible. This may require you to take more Yoga courses, and visit Yoga teacher workshops. Online and correspondence Yoga teacher courses are a viable option, as well.

Read as much as you can about Yoga. If you can read Yoga books and Yoga magazines for one hour per day, you will have amassed 365 hours of study in one year. If you get tired of reading, watch a new Yoga DVD for an hour.

If you did this every day, for four years, you would easily be a "strong teacher" about the subject of Yoga. If you continued to do this for ten years, or more, you could become one of the most knowledgeable Yoga teachers in the world.

If you study Yoga for life, you will become the best you can be. This commitment to excellence only requires one hour per day. This formula is not complex or difficult, but most certified graduates, of any subject, will not take the action to begin, persist, and endure, because most people are not self-starters.

It is only human to perform better in a structured setting - where deadlines for examinations are set and enforced. This is how we earn college degrees or become a certified Yoga teacher. What separates the top ten percent of any field, from the rest, is the inspiration and motivation, which burns like a fire from within.

Yoga Can Benefit Skiing and Snowboarding

Look around your everyday surroundings when the weather report is a bunch of moaning about a storm front that's coming with lots of snow and the "weather guessers" are warning that travel is going to be a mess. Are there people who are grinning from ear to ear? Do you know what they're thinking? For most, it's about a time in the not too distant future when that snow will be under their downhill skis, cross-country skis, or snowboard. News of snow in the higher elevations is music to their ears.

For many of these folks, the music is not so sweet when they return from their much-anticipated winter getaway. The new "sporting equipment" in their life is a heating pad, ice pack, power massager, knee brace, crutches, or even a wheel chair. They may also be having a new "intimate relationship" with their doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist, or all of the above.

This sorry state of affairs is often the result of the person still attempting to ski in that "attack the mountain and moguls" style that was learned when the body was younger, better conditioned, and more flexible. Today, the back and knees are stiffer; the quads are not as firm; we forget to breath, tense up and crash. The outcomes are aches and bruises at a minimum and with luck; the maximum result from kissing a tree is a broken bone.

This is where the benefits of yoga come in as a near perfect discipline to develop and maintain the conditioning needed for winter sports. Yoga develops muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Hello people, these are the same things a skier or snowboarder needs for a body that will allow a continued love affair with the snow-covered slopes. Prior to the ski trip, yoga helps condition and prepares muscles and joints for the stress of skiing. When yoga is used to warm up and stretch muscles right before pushing off on that black diamond, muscles are warm and ready for the test in front of you.

When you match up skiing and yoga, your improved balance allows you to keep your shoulders square and over your boots. The breathing techniques practiced in yoga keep you from holding your breath and reducing oxygen to your muscles. Holding your breath makes muscles tense up so you ski less efficiently and are more prone to injury. The greater flexibility and increased muscle tone in the large core muscles around the legs, rear end and abdomen provide better form and technique. This is because you are bending at the hips rather than bending over at the waist and destroying your balance and weight transfer. Improved balance and technique allow you to ski with grace and to flow with the mountain rather than trying to bully and attack the mountain.

Flowing with the mountain rather than resisting it, means less wear and tear on your joints and back plus you are much less likely to kiss a tree or take a tumble with another skier, unless you want to! It also means you can enjoy your getaway and still be grinning from ear to ear and walking upright when you return to your everyday surroundings.

Tutorial: Learning Yoga

Learning yoga is the second most in thing nowadays, next of course to doing or executing the yoga exercises itself.

There are many ways and measures how yoga is taught to different people across the world.

There are formal classes, and those that are done online. Online classes also abound. There are basic and helpful books that generally offer simple tutorial to people who want to learn yoga.

Online yoga

Relaxation and a quick in touch with the mental and spiritual aspect of one's personality and life makes yoga a worthwhile and distinct type of exercise done by people of all ages around the world.

Yoga has previously been exclusive to the Hindu and other Indian religion. But nowadays, it is to be noted that the practice has also become very popular to everyone world wide.

That is why various and numerous health clubs and fitness membership organizations across all parts of the world are now offering yoga tutorials, sessions and exercises.

It is to be noted that the enrollees for such tutorials and classes are rising very rapidly nowadays. But because there are more people who do not have the luxury of time to spend freely on tutorials, it is imperative that yoga be offered through different venues and portal.

To cater to the numerous people who are too busy at work and only find a little time after office hours to spare for such relaxing tasks and exercise, there are a number of Web sites now that offer yoga tutorials and classes online.

Online yoga sites are so helpful and have been greatly patronized and visited. That is because some people are almost always too busy at work during daytime and cannot really rush to their gyms after work hours.

Books offering personal yoga tutorials

Because learning yoga is not always learned conveniently through formal classes, here are some recommended readings and books that would help you learn more about yoga. Help yourself and get some of these books. Be in the convenience of self-tutorial.

"Business of Teaching Yoga" by Larry Payne

This book is basically teaching readers who are aiming to teach yoga classes and activities to other people. Because holding classes and teaching yoga to others can be a tough responsibility, it is mandated that the person doing such be knowledgeable enough about the discipline.

Otherwise, the danger would be imminent to the class participants and students. Like almost all forms of exercises, yoga activities can be futile if the proper techniques, posture and form of the body throughout the process would definitely spell out the success and efficiency of the task.

The book is available on your favorite bookstand or online through the different e-shopping sites like amazon and others.

"How to Meditate" by Lawrence LeShan

The book, as the title implies will teach readers on the proper, appropriate and effective way of simple meditation and concentration.

Yoga basically involves and revolves around meditation to provide the natural and well-balance between the body's physical, spiritual and mental faculties.

This book will greatly touch on the issues, concerns and standard practices that would provide greater condition for yoga training and exercises.

"Ashtanga Yoga---The Practice" by David Swenson

The modern yoga is a branch out of the ancient and well disciplinary Ashtanga Yoga, that is why learning it would be of great help when also learning yoga.

The book tells about the recommended practices, procedures and simple tasks when doing or attempting to meditate or do the basic yoga.
